SPP Phase I by Mercy Malaysia

Last week, I got a chance to be a volunteer for School Preparedness Programme (SPP) Phase I by Mercy Malaysia at SKJT Sg Renggam, Seksyen 18, Shah Alam. Frankly speaking, I was reluctant to be a volunteer at the first place. Well, after I entered my fourth year of medical school, I knew that it wasn't like before. It was extremely hectic; not a honeymoon year I must say.
So at the very last minute, I changed my mind. I said to myself, why not I just give it a try? We'll see how it go. To make it short, I was listed to be a volunteer at the primary school. Wow! This was something new because previously I'd been to secondary school for SPP Phase II. Plus, it was SKJT. I'd never been to such school before. I wasn't saying that I was being a racist but that's the truth. For all my life I'd never been there before. So, it was a new experience for me.

Nevertheless, it turned out not like what I'd expected to be. The students were very energetic, smart and full of enthusiasm along the programme. They were not shy. They participated and volunteered during the programme though the programme was for one whole day- morning till evening. I was very amazed by that. Besides that, we were treated like VIPs by the teachers and also the students. Not to forget their token of gratitude towards us :)

I'm so blessed to be part of this programme. It was never came across to my mind to join this kind of programme. It was an enjoyable experience for me that I could never forget. Kudos to all the teachers, students and also volunteers. Till we meet again next time :)

ENT Posting

Last week marked the end of my two weeks of ENT posting. Two weeks of hectic weeks. I couldn't even get enough rest. There were lots of things that I needed to study and do (seminars, case presentation etc). Not to forget the homework that we all got from the MOs and specialists :)

Frankly speaking, at first I was kind of lost. I felt so down because there were so many things that I didn't know. I felt that I was such a pillock. My anatomy had gone far beyond that I could even imagine. Hahaha. All those nasopharynx, oropharynx and etc. I'd been in a funk at the first week.

Coming to the second week, I felt that I needed to change. I didn't want to sit in the same position like last week. Alhamdulillah, Allah had granted my wish. During the second week I learnt a lot at the clinic. There were so many cases that I could learn and see, I could practice how to use the otoscope on the patient and visualize the TM and EAC clearly, I could learn how the endoscopy examination was done and many more. Big thanks to all the MOs and specialist at the HTAR and HSB who were willingly to teach my friends and I during our posting despite of they were all busy with their patients. Thank you. May God bless you all :D

During our last day of this posting, my heart began to feel very heavy. Oh no! So soon? I wished I had one more week for this posting. There were a lot of things that I wanted to learn. But anyway, hopefully I could passed this posting. Short posting is very scary you know! In two weeks time you need to cover everything and trust me, it really need a lot of efforts. You have to work hard because no one can spoon-feed you everything.

Welcome back to school!

Finally my holiday has just ended. I was a lil' bit sad I must say. Well who doesn't right?
Coming back to think of it, it seemed like I've never done anything beneficial during my holiday (besides my reading project)
I would love to go for a vacation to somewhere else but I didn't managed to book any flight tickets, hotels and so on and so forth because I was afraid that I could't make it to Year 4. Never mind. We still got plenty of time to plan for our next vacation right?

Basically I'm in my forth year of medical school. Wow! Forth year already? So soon?
Honestly speaking, I never thought that I'm now a forth year student. It seemed like yesterday we just entered our third year, went to the hospital for the first time with our new white lab coat and brand-new stethoscope.. Ah, how time flies. I kinda missed my third year.

After the briefing this morning, we were being informed that forth year would be slightly different from last year. Last year we had four major postings; Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. But now, we are going to sub-speciality postings/departments. 3 postings and 2 blocks.

The 3 postings are:

1) Primary Care
2) Psychiatry
3) Community Medicine

And the 2 blocks are:

1) ENT, Ophthalmology and Forensic Medicine
2) Radiology, Anaesthesiology and Orthopaedics

As for now, my first rotation for this year is the ENT, Ophthalmology and Forensic Medicine block. Wish me luck! :)

September read

As you can see, my previous five posts were all about books. Well since I've nothing to do for this holidays I guessed it is the best for me to do some reading. Well I haven't read a lot for a quite some time.

So it's now October. Gosh how fast the time flies. It seemed like yesterday I'd just entered my clinical years and now I'm going to my fourth year of medical school? Jeez.

To wrap this up, here's the list of my books that I've read so far in September. And to be honest people, this month had been an amazing reading month! :)
